Literature Review

A literature review is a search and evaluation of the available literature in your given subject or chosen topic area. Literature review is important because it provides context, informs methodology, maximizes innovation, avoids duplicative research, and ensures that professional standards are met.

In general, the key purposes of a literature review include:

  • Identify need for additional research (justifying your research)
  • Identify the relationship of works in context of its contribution to the topic and to other works.
  • Place your own research within the context of existing literature making a case for why further study is needed.
